Furry Friends

Whether you are a dog lover or a cat person your heart can't but be filled with the impulse to instantly take everyone of God's creatures home with you when visiting the SPCA. I recently visited the SPCA in Grahamstown to take some photos for two writer friends that are doing a profile piece for Grocott's Mail on animals that need homes. The three photos of dogs that are below are are just a few of the animals that are looking for a loving home. The cats are from the SPCA in King Williams Town (my hometown).

As the sun comes up

Murphy's law (if anything can go wrong it will) the day that Dianne Jordan (my fellow photojourn classmate) and I decide to get out of bed at the inhumane hour of before 6am we are greeted by an average Grahamstown sunrise. Being Grahamstown and Winter we were so hoping to get a misty, moody sunrise or at least some contrasty clouds but alas all we got was clear blue skies and sunshine. Netherless that was the last time I put faith in Grahamstown weather doing what I want it to do.

We did manage to get some decent photos though by turning our attention from the landscape itself to the smaller objects in the foreground as the morning light was hitting them. Here are my best ones from the morning.

The Life of Riley

The Life of Riley describes themselves as being "A cold beer for your ears, abab couplets for your heart'

They are a two-piece folk-pop band consisting of Terri-Lee Adendorff and Nick Mulgrew. The band was formed in Grahamstown, yes that big city in which I currently reside.  And I may be a little bit biased as I did do journalism with both Terri and Nick but I think that they are FABULOUS!! They have such a quirky and different sound that you can't help but be attracted to it!

I enjoyed photographing them in studio so much as their enthusiasm and humour just shone through as you can see by the photos. I doubt there was even one serious photo taken at the shoot. So I have to thank both Terri and Nick for being superstars and making photographing them look easy! You two both ROCK!!

The Life of Riley have just independently released their first album which is called 'The Golden Age of Us'. So I urge you all to check them out on facebook and you can order their album by emailing thegoldenageofus@gmail.com
